THE MOON IS IN MY HEART

by Dwayne Edward Rourke

Watercolor, gouache, ink on 300 lb. cotton. Original size 30" x 22"

Compteted during Moon cycle 1 EB.

The fIrst breath we take as a newborn baby, is unlike any other breath we take in our entire lives. It is a breath signaling our emergence as a purposeful and multi-faceted human organism. A significant astronomical alignment of celestial bodies surrounds us at the time of that first breath. Most obvious of these celestial bodies are the Sun and the Moon. These two "lights" create a predictably recurring pattern of harmony visible from here on Earth. This pattern of harmony is known as the lunation cycle.

Each of us is born into a lunation cycle at a particular phase of the Moon. This phase relationship is repeated every twenty nine and a half days and is termed our lunation birthday. It is a time each lunar month when each of us is given the opportunity to consciously remember the balanced unification of solar (masculine) and lunar (feminine) energies present at the time of our birth.

In choosing to acknowledge the Sun and Moon as celestial archetypes of the masculine and feminine principles within us, we are choosing to incorporate that harmony into our lives. In this way we become rhythmically empowered by a natural cosmic cycle. This empowerment is very real and can enliven our hearts with creative energy. My own conscious alignment to the phases of the Moon goes back more than three decades. You could say, therefore, that the Moon is in my heart.
